Mobile Tyre Fitting Ide

A flat tyre in Ide does not mean you need to risk driving into Exeter.

M&M Tyres can come to your home, workplace or wherever the vehicle is safely parked. We load the tyres at our Marsh Barton workshop before setting off, then fit them at your address using the same equipment and fitting standards you would get at the garage.

Ide is only a short run from us, so we regularly cover the village and the surrounding lanes. Whether the car is on your drive, in a yard or parked up after picking up a puncture, give us the registration and we will tell you what we can do.

Tyres Ide

The right tyre for a car doing the school run and the B3174 into Exeter is not always the right tyre for a van working the lanes around Tipton St John and Alfington. Before we recommend anything, we ask how you actually use the vehicle, how many miles you cover, and what you want to spend.

That might mean a like-for-like replacement, something harder wearing for a van that lives on rural roads, a quieter option for an EV, or a set of all season tyres for the winter lanes. Whichever way it goes, one of the team will talk you through it in plain English and give you the price before any work starts.

Choosing Tyres For Ide Lanes And The A30

Driving around Ide can put very different demands on a tyre. One minute you are on narrow lanes towards Dunchideock or Shillingford, dealing with hedge cuttings, rough edges and farm traffic. The next you are joining the A30 and asking the same tyres to stay stable and predictable at higher speeds in wet weather.

For drivers who spend a lot of time on Devon lanes, all season tyres can be worth considering. They are designed to cope with a wider range of temperatures and road conditions, which can be useful when shaded lanes stay wet or frosty after the main roads have cleared.

Full winter tyres make sense for some drivers but are unnecessary for others. Our guide to summer, winter and all season tyres explains the differences in plain English.

What The Van Carries For Ide Drivers

The van is loaded for the job before we leave Marsh Barton.

Tell us what you are driving and we will make sure the right tyres and equipment come with us.

We supply and fit:

Give us the vehicle registration and we can identify the suitable sizes. If you want to check the markings yourself first, our tyre size guide explains what the numbers and letters on the sidewall mean.

Lanes And Villages We Cover Around Ide

Ide is close to our Marsh Barton workshop, so the village and the roads around it are firmly within our mobile fitting area.

We regularly help drivers in and around:

  • Ide village and High Street
  • Markham Lane and Halscombe
  • Dunchideock and Shillingford St George
  • Whitestone and the lanes towards Tedburn
  • The B3212 towards Dunsford
  • The A30 junction near the village

The lanes around Ide can be hard on tyres. Hedge cutting season, broken road edges, potholes and debris all have a habit of finding a sidewall or tread eventually.

If something does go wrong, it is usually better to leave the vehicle where it is safely parked rather than trying to drive it into Exeter on a damaged tyre.

Puncture Repairs Before Replacements

A flat tyre does not always mean a new tyre.

If a nail, screw or other object has gone through the correct part of the tread, there is a good chance the tyre can be repaired instead of replaced.

A proper puncture repair costs around £20, and if the tyre is safe to repair, that is what we will recommend.

Whether a tyre can be saved depends mainly on the type and location of the damage:

  • A straightforward puncture in the central tread area can often be repaired
  • Shoulder and sidewall damage cannot be safely repaired
  • Bulges, deep cuts and exposed cords mean the tyre needs replacing
  • Some slow leaks turn out to be a valve or wheel issue rather than the tyre itself

The tyre needs to come off the wheel so the fitter can inspect it properly from the inside. If it can be repaired safely, we will tell you. If it cannot, we will explain why and show you the damage.

That approach is a big part of how M&M Tyres has worked since 1984. If you do not need a new tyre, we are happy to say so.

Speak to our expert, friendly team today.

What Happens When The Van Turns Up

Mobile tyre fitting is much the same as having the work done at the garage. The difference is that the equipment comes to you.

This is how a typical fitting works:

  • You give us the vehicle registration and location
  • We confirm the tyres, price and appointment
  • The fitter arrives with the correct tyres already loaded
  • The vehicle is positioned on firm, level ground
  • The wheel is removed
  • The old tyre comes off and the wheel and tyre are checked
  • The replacement is fitted
  • The wheel is balanced using the equipment on the van
  • Wheel nuts are tightened to the correct torque setting
  • The TPMS is checked and reset where required
  • The old tyre is taken away for disposal

A single tyre can often be fitted in around 20 minutes once the technician is set up.

Tyre Brands We Bring Out To Ide

You do not have to choose between the cheapest tyre on the list and the most expensive one.

We supply options across budget, mid-range and premium brands, including:

The right choice depends on how the vehicle is used. Someone covering 15,000 motorway miles a year may get more value from a premium tyre with better wear and wet-weather performance. Someone doing a few local miles each day may be better served by a solid mid-range option.

We will explain the difference and let you decide.

Roadside And Blowout Help Near Ide

If a tyre blows out near Ide or on the A30, the first job is getting the vehicle somewhere safe.

Once you are safely stopped, avoid driving any further on the flat tyre if you can.

A tyre that might only need replacing can quickly turn into a damaged wheel if it is driven flat for any distance. Our flat tyre guide explains what to do while you are waiting for help.

If the steering now feels different, the car pulls to one side or the wheel no longer sits straight, the alignment may also need checking. Our guide to pothole damage explains some of the signs to watch for.

We provide emergency tyre fitting during workshop hours.

Why Ide Drivers Stick With An Independent Tyre Centre

Most drivers do not mind paying for a tyre when they genuinely need one. What they do mind is wondering whether they are being sold more than the car actually needs.

That is where M&M Tyres is different.

With M&M Tyres, you can expect:

  • An independent local tyre business
  • A 4.9 rating built from hundreds of reviews
  • Experienced fitters customers know by name
  • Repairs recommended when they are safe and suitable
  • Clear pricing

Whether you need one tyre on the driveway or a full set for a vehicle that needs to be back at work tomorrow, the aim is the same.

Tell you what it needs, give you the price and get it sorted.

Frequently asked questions.

Here are just some of the questions we get asked on a daily basis.

No. The cost of mobile tyre fitting here is the same as the price you would pay in the workshop, with the tyres, fitting, balancing and VAT all inside the figure you are quoted. Nothing is added for the convenience of having it done at home or work. The only real difference is whether you spend the twenty minutes in our waiting area or your own kitchen.

Yes. We supply and fit caravan tyres and trailer tyres at home addresses and on farms right across the villages, so there is no need to tow anything into a garage. Age matters more than tread on these, since they spend most of the year standing still, so it is worth having new tyres fitted before a trip rather than finding out on the A30.

Not at all. Enter your vehicle registration when you buy tyres online and it pulls up the right tyres for your vehicle, or read us the numbers off the sidewall and we will do it over the phone. From there you can see the full range of tyres that fit, from budget options up to Michelin and Pirelli, and we will tell you which type of tyre suits the miles you actually do rather than pointing at the dearest one on the list.

Yes. Our technicians carry lighting and work outdoors all year, which is what keeps Devon drivers moving through the winter. Very heavy weather or an unsafe roadside position can change the plan, and we will say so at the time rather than turn up and improvise around it.

It could be either. Road conditions around the Ide lanes are hard on tyres and suspension, particularly after a wet winter. The fitter checks the tyre and the wear pattern while they are with you, and wheel balancing is done on the van as the wheel goes back on. Wheel alignment is the only part that needs a visit to the garage at Marsh Barton, because the laser gear lives there. Mention it if the car pulls or the steering wheel sits off centre and we will tell you whether it is worth booking in.

Yes. Every tyre replacement includes taking the old ones back to Marsh Barton for proper disposal, so you are not left with four tyres stacked by the bins. It is a small thing, but it is part of why people have their tyres replaced at home rather than making the trip in.

Not much. The technician arrives in a fully equipped mobile van with your tyres already loaded, so the fitting process only needs three things from you: access to the vehicle, the locking wheel nut key if it has one, and firm level ground to jack it on. A driveway, a yard or a verge with hard standing all work. Soft mud in a gateway does not. If you are not sure of your tyre size, read us the registration and we will have it sorted before we set off.

No. The workshop runs Monday to Friday and is closed at weekends, so a mobile tyre fitting appointment has to fall on a weekday. Within those days you can select a time and place that suits you, at home or work, first thing or late afternoon. If a tyre goes down on a Friday evening, ring first thing Monday and we will get you in as early as the diary allows.

Often the same day. The workshop is only a few minutes from the village, so the van is rarely far away. Give us your postcode and registration when you ring and we will tell you what the diary looks like, whether we have the tyres in stock, and what time we can realistically get you back on the road. You will get a straight answer rather than a booking that quietly drifts into next week.
